British Safety Council Conference
'Positive safety culture = good management' - the key to eradicating unsafe behaviours and improving performance. What the evidence shows.
Event date: Thursday 4th December 2008 from 09:00 - 12:40
Keynote speaker: Brian Nimick - Chief Executive of the British Safety Council.
The Event
It is estimated 80-90 per cent of workplace accidents are triggered by unsafe behaviours. Controlling unsafe acts is the key to successful accident prevention. The core elements of 'positive safety culture' - clear and visible leadership, good communications, an actively engaged workforce, clear expectations and shared values - are also essential elements of good management generally.
This conference, which will be chaired by Nina Wrightson OBE - Chair of BSC's Trustees, will share the results of research commissioned by the BSC, examining the benefits to organisations from creating and maintaining positive safety culture. The research - conducted by Sarah Cudmore, of Cudmore Consulting - reviews existing evidence and surveys the experience four major employers from construction, energy generation and supply, major hazards and local government have had in driving improvements in safety culture, and details how they assess the impact and success of their initiatives.
Why Should You Attend?
- The conference is the opportunity to hear the findings first hand. It will include presentations from the participating organisations and from experts, demonstrating what they believe the essential components of 'positive safety culture' are, and what they have done to make it happen.
